History

The New York Piano Society, Inc. (NYPS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and nurturing talented performers whose primary profession lies outside of the field of music performance. Founded in 2005 by pianist Elena Leonova, NYPS seeks to create performance opportunities for accomplished non-professional artists. NYPS provides a nourishing environment through recitals, special events with prominent concert artists, workshops, and social events, fostering relationships between non-professional and professional musicians. Since its first presentation in 2006, NYPS concert programs have been enthusiastically received by a wide variety of concertgoers including both seasonal classical music lovers and new audiences.

Mission

New York Piano Society (NYPS) is committed to discovering, developing and presenting talented pianists whose professions lie outside the field of music. NYPS fosters artistic growth through workshops, master classes, and performances with professional guest artists on major New York City stages. We spread our musical enthusiasm through the community with free concerts for children and seniors.

Under the dynamic and visionary direction of its Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus Elena Leonova, NYPS has presented numerous exciting concerts and special events with guest artists in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Baruch Performing Arts Center, the Concert Hall of the German Consulate, Hunter College, Steinway Hall, Liederkranz Hall, and Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. The list of distinguished guest musicians from past seasons includes the legendary pianist Byron Janis, renowned flutist Carol Wincenc, and numerous established instrumentalists, vocalists and professors of the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music, Mannes The New School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and other leading musical institutions. The New York Piano Society also offers regular workshops and masterclasses for members and friends at Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan. NYPS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation supported by private tax-deductible contributions from people and organizations who support performance opportunities and exposure for non-professional artists.

Artistic Director

The Board of the New York Piano Society is pleased to announce Natasha Paremski as our next Artistic Director. Natasha is a long time trusted member of our extended NYPS family. Born in Moscow, Natasha continues the legacy of the great Heinrich Neuhaus Russian school of piano playing that was also Elena’s musical training and admired pedagogy. A kindred spirit with Elena in many ways, we are excited for Natasha to carry the torch and propel NYPS into the future.

Vision & Dedication

We have presented concerts in New York City at Carnegie Hall (Weill Hall), Baruch Performing Arts Center, Hunter College, Concert Hall of the German Consulate, Steinway Hall, Liederkranz Hall, and in New Jersey at Lenfell Hall of Fairleigh Dickinson University. In addition, NYPS frequently invites distinguished professional artists and gifted young musicians as guest performers. In past seasons we have featured many noted concert instrumentalists, vocalists and professors of leading musical institutions, including the legendary pianist Byron Janis and renowned flutist Carol Wincenc.
